Craig Ogden

Thursday 17th May 2012 at 7:30 pm

As the evenings grow longer, Australian guitarist, Craig Ogden, offers a deliciously sunny array of music for the classical guitar. Recently hailed “a worthy successor to Julian Bream” (BBC Music Magazine), Ogden’s success and wide critical acclaim continue to blossom.

Following a hugely popular debut solo album for Classic FM (‘The Guitarist’), and with nominations within the Classical Brit Awards’ “Album of the Year” category, Ogden’s recital promises to offer something for everyone.

With popular favourites by Albéniz, substantial works of highly subtle intricacy by Dewar and Scarlatti, and a stunning arrangement of Arlen’s timeless classic, ‘Over the Rainbow’, this is the quintessential recital for a summer’s evening.

Craig Ogden and Richard Campbell in an Evening of Guitar and Organ
Craig Ogden is well known to Ulster audiences but usually in performances with the Ulster Orchestra: he is rarely heard here in solo performance.

Craig is Australian born and widely thought to be one of the most exciting performers of his generation. In 2004 he became the youngest instrumentalist to receive a Fellowship Award from the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester where he is now Principal Lecturer in Guitar. In addition, he is a Visiting Lecturer at the London Royal College of Music.
Currently, he is one of the most widely recorded guitarists and his Classic FM albums “The Guitarist” and “Summertime” both went straight to no.1 in the UK classical chart in 2010 and 2011. The BBC’s Music Magazine has dubbed Ogden “a worthy successor to Julian Bream”. Craig has performed with most of the major orchestras worldwide but also regularly appears as a soloist and chamber musician.

Richard Campbell is well known to Portaferry audiences as a church musician and has been Director of Music at several local churches including St. George’s Parish Belfast where he has been organist since 2004. He is a regular performer with the BBC appearing in both local and national radio broadcasts as well as on “Songs of Praise”.
After the concert join us for our reception in the Ballywhite Ballroom by kind permission of Mr and Mrs Jamie Brownlow. Transport from the concert to the reception will be by coach returning to Portaferry at 10.45pm. Transportation, all food and wines included in the price.
